This painting is the 4th in this series of airbrush paintings and introduces a lot more colour while still retaining the melaleucas as subject matter.

I'm particularly interested in the three worlds of water, above surface, surface and below-surface -- surface being the reflections. I'm also finding the distortion interesting, in that the further an object gets from the water that is reflecting it, the more distorted it becomes. I'm working with opaque acrylic inks as the base layer, alternating light and dark to build up textures and volume. As the painting progresses I'll use transparent inks over the top to introduce subtle colour variations. My objective at the moment is to push the airbrush more towards super realism and for that purpose I'm very keen to do a portrait, which I think will be helpful to further my experience with super-realist technique.
