Dice and dice games have been around for a few thousand years, historically made from variety of different materials, bone, wood, stone, metal and ivory.

Aside from being used in games, dice are a symbol of chance or luck and can hold very strong and meaningful messages.  Our dice are handmade from scavenged and repurposed old iron, in 2 sizes.  To add another layer of meaning, one face of the dice can be engraved (see below).

The specifications for dice are:

  • 25mm square or 20mm square
  • Hand-made from old iron
  • Polished and varnished
  • Approx weight: 120g ea

A suggestion: The concept of the dice is to order a couple or more, ie a dice with initials for each partner, maybe add another for a date, maybe one for each of the kids.  You can order in multiples and in different size combinations.  For multiples of the same size, just choose the size and add the quantity you'd like.  For orders combining 20mmm + 25mm in the same order, first choose 20m size with the quantity you require, hit 'Add to Cart' and then choose 25mm with the quantity you require and 'Add to Cart'.

Engraving (included in price) : The dice are engraved on one face (to replace number 6), and can be up to 4 letters which are decorative in style OR a date in the format of 12.2.14. Please tell us what you'd like for engraving in the Customer Note box at checkout. If you'd like your engraving to replace a number other than 6, please advise.  For multiple dice with different sizes, please be specific with engraving message for each dice and size.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Old Iron

These days iron is not manufactured by steel making factories, it has to be scavenged or sourced (we find ours in Farms and Wineries in our district) and we repurpose it.  Iron was commonly used in old farm machinery, wine barrel hoops or horse drawn cart tyres. Some of our scavenged iron dates from about the 1890's.

Iron is an element and in it's purist form is relatively soft.  Steel is an alloy and is a derivative of iron.  Steel is made of iron with some carbon and impurities removed, which makes it stronger.

How long before the item I like can be shipped?

We keep most of the more popular items we make in stock.  If an item is in stock, it may be able to be sent on the day we receive your order, or depending on time of day and any customising, it may be sent on the following day. If you are running short on time, you could call or email us to check what we have available to ship immediately, or ask how long before the item can be made and ready for shipping.

Some of the items that we don't hold in stock are the Jewellery Boxes or Fireside Tools, because these have many options and variables, eg. colour of fabric lining, style of handles and type of tools.  Our iron rings also need to be made to size, but as these are quick to make, they may only take an extra day or so.
